A poem in this book:

Year by year,

rights—all rights—

erode over time.

Brainwashed and empty-minded

people

support, praise, and cheer

Day after day,

thoughts—all independent thoughts—

vanish over time.

Ignorant, thoughtless, and mindless

people

still help, encourage, and applaud

Another poem in this book:

Skinny, scrawny, skeletal,

the stray dog

walks slowly down a busy street.

Three months ago,

she was abandoned by a couple—

who lost their jobs and left the city.

For three months,

she’s been wandering the streets.

Hot, fiery, blazing,

today’s sun is shining like a fireball.

Hungry, thirsty, tired,

the stray dog is fading.

Dying beside a rubbish tip,

with tears flowing from her eyes.

Listening to the footsteps and laughter,

of the people who pass by,

the stray dog dies—

alone, forlorn, and invisible.
